After discount, fees, shipping and returns, how much is left from each order?

Problem it solves

The price on the product page is not your profit. Between that price and what remains in the account at month-end sit discounts, marketplace fees, gateway fees, shipping, packaging, advertising, and returned orders — each calculated on a different base.

This tool subtracts all of them line by line for “one order”, shows each cost’s share of net revenue, and says how far price can fall before you still break even. If you also give monthly fixed costs, you see how many orders are needed to cover them.

Assumptions of this calculation
  • Platform fee is calculated on net revenue (price after discount); a fixed fee, if any, is added.
  • Gateway fees are calculated on the amount charged to the customer (net revenue + shipping charged).
  • On a return, full net revenue is refunded to the customer; outbound shipping charged to the customer is not refunded and platform and gateway fees are not recovered (conservative assumption).
  • Resaleable returned goods are recovered at their unit cost; non-saleable goods, zero.
  • All figures are per-order and expected: a 4% return rate means 4 of every 100 orders come back, and the effect is spread across all orders.
  • Value-added tax is not in this calculation; if your price includes VAT, enter the price excluding tax.
Input sheets, results (with formulas that recalculate when inputs change), and method. The file is built and sent immediately and is not kept on the server.

Calculation method and assumptions

  • Net revenue = list price − discount (amount or percentage; only one).
  • Platform fee is on net revenue (+ fixed fee if any); payment fee is on amount received from the customer, i.e. net revenue + shipping charged.
  • Return impact has three separate lines: lost revenue (net revenue × return rate), value of resalable goods (cost × return rate × resalable share), and return logistics (cost per return × return rate). Assumption: on return full net revenue is refunded, shipping charged to the customer is not refunded, and fees are not recovered.
  • Contribution profit per order = net revenue + shipping received − cost of goods − shipping paid − packaging − platform fee − gateway fee − ads − other costs − return effect.
  • Break-even price: because contribution profit is linear in price, solving "contribution profit = 0" gives: break-even net revenue = cash costs per order ÷ (1 − platform fee − gateway fee − return rate), and list price is reconstructed from the discount. When the denominator is zero or negative, there is no break-even point and the tool warns.
  • Estimated operating profit is shown only when you have entered both monthly fixed cost and monthly order count: contribution profit − (fixed cost ÷ order count). Breakeven order count = fixed cost ÷ contribution profit per order.
  • The sensitivity table recalculates contribution profit for ±10% price and ±20% ad cost; scenarios do the same with numbers you provide.

Limitations and misuse

  • This tool’s output is contribution profit, not net profit: until fixed costs and every component are entered, do not read any figure as net profit. Even “estimated operating profit” excludes tax and finance costs.
  • All figures are at constant prices; if cost of goods changes month to month with inflation, enter replacement cost (next purchase price), not the previous purchase price.
  • Ad cost "per order" is an average; for a specific campaign, the ad breakeven tool is more precise.
  • Return rate and resalable share must come from your data; example figures are hypothetical.
  • This tool is a calculator, not advice: none of the figures is a pricing or investment recommendation.

Orders per month
Scenario 2 — list price
Scenario 2 — ad cost per order
Scenario 3 — list price
Scenario 3 — ad cost per order
